Well, category management was first defined as a business process in the United States in the mid-90s. It was immediately met with naysayers and resistance.

Now almost three decades later, category management remains central to retail management and has been refined with the process being more efficient and effective.

However, the question is: Has category management outlived its usefulness and is it dead?
